Cop arrested in alleged plot to share info with robbery suspects

The Oost-Nederland police arrested a police officer in the same unit on Tuesday on suspicion that he leaked information from the police systems to suspects in a robbery investigation. The 26-year-old cop is officially suspected of violating official confidentiality, ANP reports.

It is as yet unclear whether the information leak had any influence on the robbery investigation. The man is in custody and will be questioned.

The police became suspicious of the suspected cop during an investigation into a series of robberies. "If the suspicions are right, then it affects all colleagues", deputy police chief Pim Miltenburg said in a statement. "The negative behavior of an individual reflects on the entire organization. But society can trust that we kick out individuals who do not abide by the rules."
