Russian accused of stabbing cop suspected in second knife attack
A 23-year-old Russian suspected of stabbing a police officer on Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam over the weekend, may have been involved in another stabbing, the police said in a statement.
On Friday last week around 6:00 p.m. a 30-year-old British man was suddenly grabbed by another man on Oudezijds Voorburgwal, near the Bulldog. He sustained a cut to his head. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and then released.
The next night, around 00:25 a.m. on Sunday, a patrolling police officer was stabbed in the neck on Rembrandtplein. He was also taken to hospital for treatment and sent home to recover.
A 23-year-old Russian man was arrested shortly after the police officer's stabbing. The police believe that he was involved in both attacks. Investigators are looking for witnesses and people who may have filmed or photographed either of the incidents.
