Over 100 Amsterdam residents in trouble for not paying alimony

Between 2010 and 2015 a total of 117 Amsterdam residents were reported to the national alimony collection agency LBIO because they did not pay their partner alimony, according to figures LocalFocus received from LBIO. On average they owed just over 800 euros a month to their ex-partner, Het Parool reports.

Amsterdam residents are relatively good about paying their partner alimony compared to the other big cities in the Netherlands. In Rotterdam 173 people were reported to the LBIO in the same period, and in The Hague 149 people.

The LBIO is responsible for mediating in situations regarding alimony arrears, and if possible recover the arrears. Of every five cases reported to LBIO, four cases involves not paying child maintenance, the other one alimony to a former partner.
