Over 40 percent of notaries face physical, verbal assault

Two in five notaries faced some for of intimidation or assault during the course of his or her duties, accordiing to a study by notaries' association KNB. This ranges from curses, threats with a weapon, physical assault or even stalking, BNR reports.

Over a thousand notaries took part in the study. 42 percent faced threats. Slightly more than half of them are men. In 10 percent of these cases, it happened in the past year. Most threatened notaries were threatened once or twice, but 6 percent faced threats 6 to 12 times.

About 60 percent of the victims faced verbal abuse. In 30 percent of these cases, the abuse came via mail or email. 2 percent were threatened over social media. About 7 percent were physically attacked in the form of pushing, punching, kicking and spitting.
