KLM CABIN CREW PROTESTS PERSONNEL CUTS; 10 MINUTE STRIKE BEFORE EACH FLIGHT

On Monday KLM cabin crew members will strike for 10 minutes before ach flight, according to union FNV. These labor actions started at 5:00 a.m. and will continue throughout Monday until 11:00 p.m. The cabin crew members are demanding that KLM not remove a crew member from some long flights, ANP reports.

These strikes will result in at least 10 minutes of delay per flight. The strikes will happen before passengers are allowed on board.

KLM called the escalation of labor actions regretabble. The airline is convinced that dialogue is the solution to get out of this situation.

The airline and unions are at loggerheads over KLM's decision to use one fewer cabin crew member on some longer flights from this month. According to KLM, this measure is necessary to acheive their productivity goals as the unions are not willing to discuss a new collective bargaining agreement. KLM is willing to scrap this measure, but only if the cabin crew and unions agree to a previous plan to scrap the "purser" position among the cabin crew.
