Police union fears laxer screening will cause more corruption at police
The screening process for new recruits was adjusted due to capacity problems, police union NPB told the Volkskrant. According to the union, there are concerns within the police that this will lead to more corruption as susceptible applicants won't be screened out.
Due to a lack of capacity, new applicants no longer get a home visit from a police officer. Police employees who do the integrity tests and screening are worried about this, NPB chairman Jan Struijs said to the newspaper.
"Especially now there are many incidents with corrupt police employees, the screening of new police officers is extremely important. Compromising on quality is unacceptable." he said.
A spokesperson for the National Police told the newspaper that house visits are still done if the initial screening shows it is needed.
