Child porn cases skyrocket in Netherlands

The number of reports about child pornography in the Netherlands skyrocketed over the past two years. In 2014 the police received 2 thousand tips about child pornography. So far this year, over 13 thousand tips were received, RTL Nieuws reports. Every day 150 investigators focus only on tracking down child pornography in the country. But in the age of smartphones and internet, these detectives can hardly keep up. Finding perpetrators is a difficult task, as they usually communicate via encrypted messages that are difficult to trace. A massive 89 percent of tips about child pornography in the Netherlands come from aboard. Tips mainly come from the United States. US law requires that child pornography be reported. The police also receive about 1,500 tips from the Netherlands itself each year.
