Dutch students' associations against hazing ban
LKVV, the umbrella organization for students' associations in the Netherlands, is against a ban on hazing. Groningen wants to ban hazing in the city after a Vindicat prospective member ended up in the hospital with a brain injury. But according to LKVV, a ban is going to far.
"The decision to ban hazing on the basis of a few incidents, we find too short cited", LKVV president Ruben Hoekman said to Dagblad van het Noorden. "It would be a shame to just throw such a centuries old student tradition overboard."
So far only Groningen and Wageningen want to ban hazing completely. Universities and Utrecht and Amsterdam count on the code of conduct their student associations signed to keep hazing under control, NU.nl reports.
