Boy, 12, killed in accident with truck

A 12-year-old boy passed away in hospital on Tuesday morning after being seriously injured in an accident with a truck in Putten on Monday, the boy's school said on its website. According to De Stentor, the victim's name is Mees van de Ridder. He was cycling to Christian College Groevenbeek in Ermelo when he was hit by a truck. He was rushed to the University Medical Center Utrecht, where he passed away on Tuesday morning. A number of other students witnessed the accident, department director Klaas van de Groep said to the newspaper. "An employee picked up a couple of students who were involved in the accident. After the news we gathered two classes and called in victim support. A police officers told the facts to both classes." The classes were gathered again to inform them of Mees death on Tuesday morning. "Together we give form to the loss. Everyone does it in their own way. One writes cards, the other poems." Van de Groep said. "Everyone can work towards saying goodbye in their own way."
