No ticket checks on trains today in NS labour action

NS conductors will not be checking train tickets today in protest against the railway company's plan to remove the second conductor from some double decker trains. The labor action is in collaboration with union FNV and will last until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, RTL Nieuws reports. It is unclear exactly how many conductors are participating in this labor action. According to them and FNV, a second conductor is important on double decker trains for safety. For example, two conductors mean that you can check tickets upstairs and downstairs at the same time. This means that freeloaders can't escape a check with a quick walk up or down the stairs, FNV spokesperson Andries van den Berg explained. NS is calling on travelers to check in and out of train stations as usual on Monday. "The gates work as normal. Anyone traveling by train needs a ticket", according to the rail company. "In addition, you run the risk of running into a conductor not participating in the action and checking tickets."
