Taxi driver held tourists "hostage" claiming €485 fare from Schiphol to Amsterdam
A group of tourists had bad luck with an Amsterdam taxi driver on Wednesday night. The taxi driver charged them 485 euros for the 20 minute trip from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam-West and refused to let them out of the car when they wouldn't pay, AT5 reports.
"He forced us to pay because he said it was a normal amount" ,the shocked tourist said to the broadcaster. "then he drove off and he continued to drive. For a long stretch. We started screaming and asked for help."
The taxi finally came to a stop when one of the tourists managed to break a window. They got out on Van Effenstraat in Amsterdam-Oost. After an altercation and paying the taxi driver a hundred euros, they also managed to get their luggage back.
The police were called, but the taxi driver fled by the time they arrived.
