Amsterdam, Rotterdam in top 20 of best cities to live in the world
Both Amsterdam and Rotterdam made it to the top 20 of the 100 best cities in the world to live on Arcadis' Sustainable Cities Index. Amsterdam is in 11th place, Rotterdam made it to 19th, the Volkskrant reports.
For the index 100 cities worldwide are rated on factors such as quality of life, environment, energy and economy. Amsterdam made it to 11th place mostly thanks to education, healthcare and safety. Rotterdam also scored high on quality of life. Though both Dutch cities still have much to do in terms of sustainability.
Switzerland's Zurich came in first place, mainly due to good performance in the fields of environment and economy. But when it comes to education, health and safety, Zurich only got to 27th place. Singapore and Stockholm came in second and third.
European cities scored very well on the index - only six non-European cities made it to the top 25. These are the Asian cities of Singapore, Seoul in 7th place, Hong Kong in 16th place, the Australian cities of Canberra in 18th place and Sydney in 21st place and the Canadian city of Vancouver in 23rd place.
