Netherlands wins first gold at Paralympic Games

Lisa Kruger won the first gold medal for the Netherlands at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday. The 16-year-old swimmer clocked 1.15,49 in the 100 meter breaststroke in the SB9 class, thereby just missing breaking the world record of 1.15,47 she set earlier that day, NU.nl The Netherlands won many medals in swimming on the first day of the Olympics. Chantalle Zijderveld, 15, took bronze in the 100 meter breaststroke in the SB9 class. And Marlou van der Kulk won silver in the 100 meter backstroke. Among the men, 16-year-old Duncan van Haaren too bronze in the 100 meter. Michael Schoemaker won bronze in the 100 meter freestyle in the S4 class. And Marc Evers won silver in the 100 meter backstroke. The first Dutch medal at the Paralympics this year was won by cyclist Alyda Norbuis, who won bronze in the individual pursuit, Classes C1-2-3.
