Dutch boy, 8, dies in Sweden explosion

An 8-year-old Dutch boy was killed in an explosion in the Swedish city of Gothenburg during the early hours of Monday morning, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to news wire ANP. The Swedish police are investigating what happened. It seems that a hand grenade was thrown into the apartment where he was staying. Several children and a few adults were in the home when this happened. According to Birmingham Mail, the boy lived in Birmingham, England with his parents. The boy and both parents have Dutch nationality. The Swedish police informed the Dutch embassy in Stockholm about the Dutch victim. The Ministry could not comment on the exact circumstances of what happened. The Dutch embassy is ready to assist the boy's family as needed.
