KLM flight from Stockholm makes emergency landing in Germany
A KLM plane had to make an emergency landing at Hamburg Airport in Germany on Wednesday due to smoke emerging from one of its engines. Passenger safety was never at stake, a spokesperson for the Dutch airline told NU.nl
The Boeing 737 was en route from Stockholm in Sweden to Amsterdam. The plane was flying over southern Denmark when the pilots noticed smoke coming from the left engine and decided to make an emergency landing.
Hamburg Airport temporarily declared a state of emergency, grounding all air traffic until the situation was resolved. According to the local newspaper BILD, air traffic resumed after about 30 minutes.
The smoke was caused by low oil levels, and passenger safety was never compromised, the KLM spokesperson told the Dutch newspaper.
The 186 passengers aboard were stranded at the German airport. KLM promised to rebook them as soon as possible.
