Corrupt cop's boyfriend also suspected of leaking information
The boyfriend of a Limburg police officer, who was arrested last week on suspicion of leaking highly confidential police information to criminals, is also a suspect in the corruption case against her. "This person was arrested on suspicion of complicity in the breach of professional secrecy", spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor in Limburg, Ingrid Reterink, said to the Telegraaf.
The 25-year-old policewoman from Heerlen and a 50-year-old colleague from Geleen were arrested last week on the suspicion that they sold police information to criminals. A "reliable source around the investigation" told the Telegraaf that the Heerlen woman's girlfriend worked as a kind of middleman, arranging contacts with "customers". "Criminals asked him for something, and he had his girlfriend who works for the police check", the newspaper's source said.
So far four people are suspected of buying information from these police officers. The information leak was discovered during the investigation into the assassination of Sven Prins, who was gunned down in September last year. A number of cellphones were bugged in the investigation, which revealed the two allegedly corrupt police officers.
According to the policewoman's lawyer, she's been through "days of questioning" since last Monday. "She stated that she did not deliberately do anything wrong and is therefore very shocked by what happened to her so far. That her boyfriend is also a suspect, makes everything even worse."
