Kurdish "gangster" transferred to Vught prison
Kurdish prisoner Huseyin Baybasin was transferred from the Heerughowaard penitentiary to the prison in Vught in all haste on Monday night. This happened after a plane carrying the text "Free Baybasin" flew over the Heerhugowaard prison, his attorney Adele van der Plas said to the Telegraaf.
"One of his sympathizers flew over the Penitentiary Institution Heerhgowaard this weekend in a plane with a banner attached that said 'Free Baybasin", the lawyer said to the newspaper. "That led to some commotion. Tonight Baybasin was suddenly taken away. I do not even know where he is now. Either in the ordinary PI Vught or the heavily secured EBI Vught."
Van der Plas is angry at the course of events, because according to her, Baybasin has never made an attempt to escape.
The Ministry of Security and Justice confirmed the transfer to the Telegraaf, saying only that Baybasin was transferred due to e "security issue".
Baybasin is one of the most well known convicts serving a life sentence in the Netherlands. The Kurdish "gangster" was sentenced to life in prison in 2002 after being convicted of murder and drug trafficking, according to the newspaper.
