Belgian tourist murdered on Sint Maarten
A 21-year-old Belgian tourist was found murdered on Sint Maarten on Sunday. Wendy Montulet's family sounded the alarm when she did not return from a last jog on the Caribbean island. Her body was found in some bushes after an hours long search, RTL Nieuws reports.
Wend Montulet was vacationing on Sint Maarten with her parents, 12-year-old sister and a few friends. A few hours before their flight home she decided to go for a last jog on the island and never returned.
The Sint Maarten police deployed a helicopter, 20 officers and a sniffer dog to search for the young woman when her family sounded the alarm. Her body was found in the bushes about 500 meters away from the hotel where she was staying. She was murdered. Her mother is convinced it was a sex crime. "She had no clothes on. What kind of animal would do this", she said to Belgian news site Het Laatste Nieuws.
The police in Sint Maarten launched a murder investigation. At a press conference the Attorney General said that Wendy "has multiple injuries caused by a sharp object". An autopsy will be done on her body this week.
