Groningen gas extraction capped at 24 billion cubic meters

Barring any extremely cold winters, gas company NAM will only be allowed to extract up to 24 billion cubic meters of natural gas in Groningen a year for the next five years, Minister Henk Kamp of Economic Affairs announced on Friday afternoon, RTV Noord reports. The level of gas extraction will also be re-examined every two years, Kamp said. The level can then be adjusted as necessary. Earlier this week the Telegraaf already reported that the gas extraction may be capped at 24 billion cubic meters. According to the newspaper, that is the latest advise from the State Supervision on Mines
