A 45-year-old man was killed in a shooting in the Utrecht neighborhood of Overvecht on Wednesday night. Witnesses saw two suspects flee the scene on a scooter, according to various Dutch media.
The shooting happened on Kretadreef around 22:00 p.m., a police spokesperson told NU.nl. Several shots were fired. The victim died at the scene.
The police launched a massive search, including a helicopter, for the perpetrators but to no avail. The suspects are still at large, the police said on Twitter on Thursday morning.
The identity of the victim is known. But the police would not comment on whether this shooting was another criminal circuit assassination. The investigation is ongoing.
According to Dutch newspaper AD, the victim was Rank S. - a Bosnian man with a wife and three daughters. He was set to testify against an "Utrecht assassination gang" next week, the newspaper reports.
