Almost all high school students pass mandatory maths test

Nearly all the high school students on the pre-university level (VWO level) passed the mandatory mathematics test. The preliminary results show that 97 percent achieved a 5 or higher, which counts as a pass. The final results will be announced after the summer, the Ministry of Education announced on Tuesday, ANP reports. This is the first year the mandatory mathematics est counts towards passing the final exam for VWO students. Students on HVO and VMBO level also have to take the test, but they results are not counted with their final exam. On these two levels the passing rate was between 62 and 93 percent. State Secretary Sander Dekker of Education is satisfied with the results. "Mathematics is an important skill for all students. They need it in their further education, in society and in the labor market. I am therefore happy that the maths test went so well in the first year that it counts for the final exam in VWO level." he said.
