Suspect arrested in Netherlands for Curacao politician's murder
A suspect was arrested in the Netherlands in the investigation into the murder of Curacao politician Helmin Wiels. This was done at the request of the Caribbean island's judiciary, ANP reports.
The suspect is in custody and will be questioned in the coming days, a spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor in Willemstad confirmed on Thursday. The identity of the suspect was not revealed. It is also unclear whether the suspect will be transferred to the island.
Wiels was shot on the Marie Pampoen beach on Curacao on May 5th, 2013. He was the leader of th Island's then largest political party Pueblo Soberano. Elvis K. was identified as the shooter and sentenced to life in prison for this and two other murders. Those who ordered the murder have not been found and prosecuted yet, according to the news wire.
