Leiden Univ. to test gender neutral toilets
Leiden University launched a test wit gender-neutral toilets on campus. The toilets are accessible to everyone, regardless of gender and aimed at removing a difficult choice for transgender people who do not associate specifically as a "man" or "woman", Leidsch Dagblad reports.
According to the newspaper, the new toilets, which can be found in the Plexus on Kaiserstraat among others, were met with varying responses. Some found it a "great initiative" others are more skeptical. "Why are there separate toilets for men and women in the public domain anyway, you don't have them at home?" one student said to the newspaper. Another wondered what would happen to urinals.
The university will assess the success of these gender-neutral toilets in the summer.
