Many Schiphol employees expected to walk out on Wednesday

About 500 Schiphol guards, luggage handlers, cargo handlers, cabin staff and cleaners will be participating in a march from Schiphol Plaza to the airport's headquarters, according to trade union FNV. The march is to draw attention to the deteriorating working conditions and increasing workload on airports worldwide, ANP reports. The Schiphol staff is also protesting against the rise of state-subsidized airlines from the Middle East. According to FNV, these cause job losses in the European aviation industry. This march is separate from the security team strikes at the airport, according to the union Similar actions will also be performed at 33 other major airports in the world on Wednesday. The marches are timed to coincide with a large gathering of airlines in Dublin. According to FNV, the march at Schiphol will not affect travelers. The staff participating in the march are people who are not on duty.
