Police shooting leaves robbery suspect dead in Schiedam park

A suspected robber was killed by a police bullet in the Prinses Beatrixpark in Schiedam on Monday night, the police said in a statement. He was shot during the arrest and died at the scene. Officers responded to a report of a possible armed robbery in the Prinses Beatrixpark at around 7:40 p.m. on Monday. They found one suspect at the scene. Shots were fired during the arrest and the suspect was hit. He died at the scene of his injuries. What exactly happened and why the officers fired shots is still unclear. The Rijksrecherche - the department that handles internal investigations at the police - is investigating as is standard procedure in all police shootings. The identity of the victim is still unknown. This is the third fatal police shooting in the Netherlands this year. In March a man was gunned down in the Noord-Holland town of De Kwakel after rushing officers with a knife. And a man from Oss was shot and killed in Eindhoven while vehemently resisting arrest, also in March.
