Music festivals need more hip hop, less classic rockers: Mojo Concerts

Mojo Concerts director Wilbert Mutsaers thinks Dutch music festivals should feature more hip-hop and R&B acts like Beyonce and Kanye West instead of sticking to old-school rock, he said in an interview with the Volkskrant on Friday. He worries that music festivals like Pinkpop risks losing touch and alienating the pop-public by not give a stage to "black music" as he puts it. "The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Metiallica and this year Paul McCartney are definitely not a reflection of the current charts and YouTube successes", he said to the newspaper. Mutsaers believes music festivals will have to change to be "future proof". According to him, American hip-hop and R&B have been a dominant factor in pop music for years, but the big Dutch festivals lack these names.
