Shots fired in Amsterdam home invasion; suspects at large

Three armed men broke into and robbed a home on Sloterweg in Amsterdam during the early hours of Sunday morning. Shots were fired during the robbery, but no one was hit. One of the home's residents did have to go to the hospital after being assaulted. The police responded the the home around 4:15 a.m. The residents were asleep in bed when the robbers came in. One of the residents got up after hearing some banging and found the robbers in the house, a police spokesperson told AT5. A shot was fired, but no one was hit. The robbers attacked the man who caught them with a blunt object. The three robbers fled on one scooter. Exactly what was stolen is still unclear. Police officers and a helicopter searched the area, but to no avail. The robbers are still at large. The injured victim was taken to the hospital to have head injuries treated. A forensic investigation was done at the scene, looking for trace evidence. The police are calling on witnesses to come forward. Investigators are especially interested in talking to people who saw a light-colored scooter carrying three men in Amsterdam West between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. on Sunday.
