National Police to get €188 mil. extra this year
The National Police is getting an additional 188 million euros in its budget this year, Nieuwsuur reports based on sources on the Binnenhof.
According to Nieuwsuur, 86 million euros of the amount is new money. The other 102 million was already assigned to the police to cover costs incurred in connection with the refugee crisis, counterterrorism and higher costs involved with the police's collective bargaining agreement.
When taking office in March, new chief of police Erik Akerboom stated that the National Police is facing structural underfunding. An investigation in that same month revealed that the National Police will need additional 300 million euros to finish its reorganization.
