Newspapers tear into Ajax after Eredivisie loss

Ajax fans may find it a good idea to avoid the newspapers today. Most of the Netherlands' newspapers dedicated quite a bit of attention to the Amsterdam team's unexpected loss of the Eredivisie championship. A photo of a defeated Ajax coach Frank de Boer with a hand over his eyes can be seen in the Telegraaf, AD and Trouw on Monday morning. The Volkskrant calls Ajax' 1-1 draw against De Graafschap, which gave the cup to PSV Eindhoven, an "unexpected denouement". Both the Volkskrant and AD believe that Ajax let the title slip through their fingers. "It was too much honor for Ajax", Trouw writes. "Ajax dropped the trophy", the Telegraaf writes. "Amsterdam cries", according to AD. Right alongside Amsterdam's despair, the newspapers also paid much attention to PSV celebrations. All newspapers published at least one picture of the PSV team with the trophy in the hands of captain Luuk de Jong.
