Video: Youth unrest in Ede continues with four cars torched

Several cars were set on fire in Ede during the early hours of Wednesday morning - the latest incidents in several days of unrest in the Veldhuizen neighborhood. A group of between 50 and 60 young people, aged between 12 and 22 years, are believed to be responsible for the trouble. The trouble started with arson at the Linderhorst shopping center on Sunday, which was followed by car fires and vandalism on Monday, according to the police. The police responded to the neighborhood on Monday after reports of windows smashed at a school. On Brederhorst they found five vandalized cars. Stones were thrown at officers and police cars as they arrived in the neighborhood, for which two boys, aged 15 and 19 years, were arrested. Despite the heavy police presence in the area, officers could not prevent three cars going up in flame on Boekhorst just before midnight on Monday. Just after 1:00 a.m. another car went up in flames at Schoonenburg. According to RTL Nieuws, another three cars were set alight on Prinsenhof during the early hours of Wednesday morning. A fourth car was also damaged. The police are calling on witnesses to come forward. Anyone who saw anything related to one of these cases of arson, or have any information regarding this case, should contact the police at once.
