About 165,000 file Dutch income taxes at last minute
With reporting by Jacopo Bernardini.
Roughly 165 thousand people filed their taxes right at the May 1 extended deadline. Nearly nine million individuals filed their taxes on time, an increase of about 400 thousand compared to a year earlier, the tax office announced on Monday.
The authority’s director, Hans Leijtens, said he is proud of the result, which included a dramatic increase in the number of people using the tax office’s app to report their earnings. About 358 thousand people used the app, versus 162 thousand last year.
“We can be proud of the result”, general manager Hans Leijtens stated. The office also highlighted that just two percent used neither the website nor the app to submit their reports.
The first tax filers will receive confirmation of what they owe, or what they are owed, beginning in mid May.
