Sparta Rotterdam wins Eredivisie spot with Jupiler League championship
Wit a 3-1 win against Jong Ajax on Monday, Sparta Rotterdam became the champion in the Jupiler League. And with that the Rotterdam club returned to the Eredivisie after six years, according to RTL Nieuws.
Sparta started strong, with the first goal scored by Loris Brongo in the 8th minute of the match. In the second half Ajax' Daley Sinkgraven evened the score with a goal and for some time it seemed the match would end in a draw. But in the 84th minute Michel Breuer brought the score up 2-1 for Sparta and in the 86th minute Sherjill MacDonald sealed the deal with another goal.
The match ended in a 3-1 victory for Sparta, which means that next season the Rotterdam team will again be able to play in the Eredivisie, clubs like big Ajax and Feyenoord.
"This is perhaps the best moment of my career", Michel Breuer said to Voetbal International following the match. He is beside himself that he could win the Jupiler League title with Sparta. "We did not have it easy. For the club and for me personally this is unforgettable."
