Police catch British fugitive after chase, Amsterdam canal swim
A 69 year old British fugitive was arrested in Amsterdam on an European arrest warrant on Thursday, the police announced. The man was wanted for numerous drug-related crimes.
The Brit tried to flee the police in his rental car when they tried to pull him over for a check. He was forced to a stop on Abcouderstraatweg after a short chase.
The 69 year old fugitive was immediately arrested. His passenger fled on foot and jumped into a canal. Two Amsterdam officers pulled him out of the water. He is also known to the Liverpool police, but there is no warrant against him. So he was released with a warning and wet clothers.
The fugitive Brit has three drug related convictions against him and has to serve a combined sentence of 29 years. He is in custody awaiting deportation to Britain.
