Chinese drive Netherlands tourism boom
A rapidly increasing number of Chinese tourists is visiting the Netherlands. The number of nights Chinese tourists spent in hotels last year increased with 33 percent compared to 2014. Though most foreign tourists visiting the country still come from Germany, Belgium and Britain, according to figures Statistics Netherlands released on Friday.
Foreign tourists spent a total of 37 million nights in the Netherlands last year, an increase of 8 percent. Germans accounted for 15 million of those nights, followed by Belgians with 5 million and Brits with 4 million. Romanian and Turkish tourists also spent more time in the Netherlands. But the Netherlands dropped in popularity among Russians, Japanese and Luxembourgers.
Chinese tourists booked a massive 436 thousand room nights in Netherlands hotels last year, 33 percent more than in 2014. The number of nights Russian tourists spent in Dutch hotels, on the other hand, decreased by 25 percent.
Germans and Belgians prefer spending their holidays in the Netherlands along the coast and most often book space on bungalow parks and campgrounds. Brits most often visit Amsterdam.
