Amsterdam buses to go cash-free from September
Amsterdam public transporter is starting the installation of card-payment machines on trams and buses from September. The intention is to have all buses and trams equipped to be cash-free by January 1st, AT5 reports.
GVB wants to talk to hotels and Schiphol airport about encouraging tourists to buy a public transport ticket before getting on a bus or tram. The public transporter also wants to install more vending machines where tickets can be bought on busy boarding places.
The GVB staff was informed of the measures on Wednesday. They are intended to reduce the number of robberies on Amsterdam public transport. Over the past months, seven bus drivers were robbed.
