Scabies outbreak reported at Univ. Amsterdam Science Park
The University of Amsterdam issued an internal memo warning of a scabies outbreak at the Science Park. At least one student was diagnosed with the highly contagious, itchy skin infection, AT5 reports.
"After the student came in, contact was made directly with the occupational health and safety service of the AMC", according to the University. In consultation we then informed fellow students as a practical precaution, because two of them shared a lab coat with the student. The risk of infection appears to be relatively small."
The university warned students of the symptoms. Including that the itching associated with scabies is worst at night and worsens with time. Students are advised to make contact with the AMC's occupation health and safety service if they think they are infected.
