Online food sales leap 40 percent; Total online sales up 16 pct.
Dutch shoppers spent a massive 16 billion euros in online shopping last year, a 16 percent increase compared to 2014. Food sales showed the strongest growth, increasing by 40 percent, according to figures from Thuiswinkel Markt Monitor, NOS reports.
About half of the total spending when tot physical products, like food, clothing and toys. The other half was spent on services, like tickets to a show and traveling.
In part the increase in online sales come at the expense of sales in physical stores. Almost 9 percent of all goods are now being bought online.
The average Dutch online shopper spends 113 euros per purchase. Most online purchases go towards toys - 36 percent.
