Psychiatric lock-up ordered for killer of Oma Toni, 96

The Amsterdam court sentenced Vino H. to mandatory treatment in a psychiatric institution for the murder of Oma Toni in Amsterdam last year. No time frame is connected to the sentence. According to the judge, H. "must be treated exactly as long as is needed until he is no longer a danger to society", Het Parool reports. Two weeks ago the Public Prosecutor demanded that H. be sentenced to psychiatric treatment. He could not demand a prison sentence because experts concluded that H. is insane and can therefore not be held accountable. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. H. attacked and stabbed Oma Toni in De Pijp almost exactly a year ago. He later turned himself in to the police. Oma Toni died in hospital three weeks later.
