More charters, Wizzair to expand at Rotterdam The Hague Airport
Brand new airport director Ron Louwerse wants to increase Rotterdam The Hague Airport's number of charter flights and destinations significantly. The airport is also in the midst of negotiations with Hungarian budget airline WizzAir, AD reports.
The regional airport currently has over 40 destinations. Louwerse hopes to increase this number by 10. Among other destinations, he is looking at Scandinavia and Eastern European cities. That will increase the number of passengers from 1.7 million to 2.9 million. According to the new director, it will also mean at least a thousand new jobs and better economic ties between Rotterdam and cities in other parts of Europe.
In the coming month Louwerse will have to convince the surrounding municipalities and local residents to support his plans. They may not be to keen on the extra noise pollution the additional flights will bring. The surrounding suburbs will soon be presented with reports that map out and explain the environmental impact and economic benefits of expanding the airport. Louwerse is positive. According to him, as long as everyone use their common sense, all will turn out well.
