Report: Amsterdam BMX biker murder tied to blown drug deal
Elco Gjaltema, who was gunned down on the Oostelijke Handelskade in Amsterdam two weeks ago, was killed because of a drug transport that went wrong, a "well informed source" said to Crimesite.nl. A drug gang held him responsible for a transport that never showed up in England.
According to crimesite, Gjaltema acted as middleman for the transport. He was the link between the drug gang who supplied the drugs and the transporter who took the drugs to England. But the about 40 kilograms of cocaine and pills never arrived and could not be found. When Gjaltema could not produce the customs and cargo papers the drug gang demanded, the gang assumed Gjaltema kept the drugs for himself. His murder was payback, according to the source.
Gjaltema was gunned down at close range in front of his apartment building on the Oostelijke Handelksade at around 10:45 on February 17th. A burning car was found in Duivendrecht shortly after the shooting. The police believe this to be the getaway car. His friends all describe him as a man with a heart of gold.
About a week after the shooting Gjaltema's girlfriend spoke to AT5. She firmly believes that the murder was a case of mistaken identity. “I want people to know how he was and how he was in life. That they know that, no matter what they see or hear on TV, or what people may say, he was a really good guy. He would never do anything wrong.” she said.
The police are considering all options, including the mistaken scenario option. They confirmed that he has no known connections with serious crime. On Opsporing Verzocht the police called for witnesses to come forwards. They would also like to speak with anyone who can give more information about Gjaltema's life.
