Amsterdam police search water for missing tourist Richard Cole
Update, 10:15 a.m., 2 February 2016: A body police discovered during their search of the Herengracht canal was identified as that of the missing tourist. Police in Amsterdam were searching the water near Thorbeckeplein for missing British tourist Richard Cole on Monday. Officers were on the water with a police sniffer dog trying to locate him. The square in the city center separates the Rembrandtplein entertainment district from the Herengracht and Reguliersgracht canals. Cole was last seen near there at 3:30 a.m. on Monday, January 25. He was in town for a short visit, police said. The pale 30-year-old stands at 1.83 meters, and has a stubble beard, dark brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a grey sweater vest, light blue jeans, and grey sneakers at the time of his disappearance. Cole is from Dursley, England, and was traveling from Copenhagen to Assen with a stop in Amsterdam, the BBC reported. His brother, Lee, and his girlfriend, Alicia Marie, arrived in Amsterdam on Sunday to help with the search, according to AT5. Marie lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. "He had been out with some people he had just met, which is common for Richard as he is very friendly. I just said to be careful, please go home, get a cab," she told the BBC. "We got off the phone and I texted him a picture of his address to show his cab but it never went through," she said, thinking his phone ran out of battery. She suspected something was wrong when she still had not heard from him nine hours later. https://www.facebook.com/RodsCuriosities/posts/872957969489495 https://twitter.com/Politie_Adam/status/694118717677047811 https://twitter.com/rodscuriosities/status/692810284940054528
