Convict badly injured in prison cell fire

A prisoner of the psychiatric ward at the penitentiary institution in Vught was seriously injured when a fire broke out in his cell on Thursday night. The prisoner had to be resuscitated and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, Omroep Brabant reports. Prison staff managed to get the prisoner out of the cell after the fire broke out and started CPR. Emergency services responded en masse. According to the broadcaster, the prison was surrounded by fire trucks, police cars, ambulances and even two air ambulances, one of which landed in the institution. The fire department extinguished the fire quickly, but it took firefighters hours to get the corridors ventilated. It is unclear whether the prisoner set the fire himself.
