18 masked men in violent asylum center raid face court
Eighteen suspects are appearing in court on Wednesday and Thursday in connection with a violent attack on an emergency asylum shelter in Woerden in October last year. They will stand before the judge in groups of three, NOS reports reports.
The attack happened on October 9th. A group of masked men stormed the asylum center, located in the Snellerpoort gymnasium, shouting at the asylum seekers inside to "fuck off". They also bombarded the shelter with eggs and fireworks and broke down the fencing surrounding the shelter. About 150 asylum seekers lived in the shelter at the time, including 50 children.
The Public Prosecutor demanded a one month conditionally suspended prison sentence and community service of 180 hours against the first three suspects to appear in court.
A 20 year old man from Oss is also appearing in court on Wednesday, in connection with the anti-asylum center riots in Heesch last week. He is suspected of throwing fireworks, wood and lighters.
