December likely warmest ever on record
This December may well be the warmest December since temperature measurements started in the Netherlands in 1901. Thursday was the warmest December 17th in Dutch history and the mild weather will continue, according to Weeronline.
Afternoon temperatures in De Bilt reached 15.3 degrees on Thursday, breaking the previous record of 13.5 degrees on December 17th, 1989. In Wijk and Zee the temperature rose to 16.6 degrees.
The mild weather is expected to continue for a while yet, with maximum temperatures only dropping below 10 degrees around Christmas, the KNMI expects.
The west of the country may see some sunshine today and temperatures will rise to 13 degrees. This weekend will be cloudy and mild, with occasional sunshine and afternoon temperatures around 13 degrees.
