Online news distributor Blendle to take on U.S. market
Dutch startup Blendle is taking on the American market, founder Alexander Klopping announced at a press congress in New York. From the first quarter of next year, United States residents will be able to use the online news kiosk to buy newspapers, magazines and loose articles.
"We can not mention names yet, but it involves dozens of participating titles", co-founder Marten Blankesteijn said to RTL Nieuws about which American newspapers and magazines their company will have to offer. "As in the Netherlands we're starting with the big ones and then expanding."
Blendle is currently active in the Netherlands and Germany, where it launched in September. Dutch and German people can already buy America's three largest newspapers - The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal - on the site.
Blendle works in cooperation with the publishers themselves, who are partly responsible for the publicity and funding. According to RTL, The New York Times and German media giant Axel Spriger already invested 3 million euro into the Dutch startup.
