Sudden birth surprises Leiderdorp swim class
A swim class at De Does swimming pool in Leiderdorp received a new member in a very surprising way on Wednesday afternoon. A very pregnant woman was waiting in the canteen for her daughter's swim lesson to end, when she suddenly went into labor. Baby Jack was born right there in one of the offices, with the help of swimming pool employees.
"I was reading a book when I suddenly felt hot, dizzy and started sweating. I also got stomach ache", mother Eveline van Egdom said to news wire ANP. The stomach ache turned out to be labor pains.
Swimming pool employees led Van Egdom to an office and called 112 and a midwife. "We laid her on her coat and arranged towels and a first aid box, with the control room on speaker", Vera Ringelsteijn, one of the employees said. "Luckily there was also a police officer present with first aid knowledge, which helped."
The midwife and paramedics arrived just before the baby was born and brought the little boy into the world. Jack's dad was too late to witness the birth of his son. His big sister was taken to family friends and mom and baby was taken to the hospital for a checkup. They are now home and doing well, according to ANP.
The swimming pool employees hung blue streamers and handed out biscuits to visitors to celebrate the arrival of their newest member. And member he will be. De Does gifted baby Jack with a stuffed animal, a ball and a lifelong membership to the pool.
