MPs press Health Minister on spouse’s role in Amsterdam hospital scandal

SP Parliamentarians Henk van Gerven and Renske Leijten are demanding answers from Health Minister Edith Schippers on her husband's role in the turbulent period at the Slotervaart Hospital in Amsterdam. These 31 written questions were submitted following the recently published book "De kraak van het Slotervaartziekenhuis en de avonturen van Aysel Erbudak", which details all kinds of scandals within the hospital, Het Parool reports. Schippers' husband Sander Spijker worked at the hospital as care consultant in 2012 and 2013. During that period director Aysel Erbudak was fired after a dispute with insurer Achmea, bringing the hospital to the brink of collapse. According to the book, Erbudak recruited Spijker, despite negative opinions from the other directors. He was then unjustly raised to the second highest position in the hospital. The SP wants to know if this is true. They also want to know if Spijker was involved in the commotion surrounding Erbudak's departure.
