Video: Over 200 kilos of cocaine washes up on Dutch beach
Water board members in Noordwijk were surprised to find large packets of cocaine washed ashore while inspecting a beach in the Zuid-Holland resort town. Police responding to the scene collected a total of 225 kilograms of cocaine bundled into ten separate packets.
The cocaine has an estimated street value of over 11 million euros, a police spokesman told broadcaster Omroep West. The packets were secured inside several bags, which were then affixed to empty gas cans that floated on the water’s surface.
The drugs were discovered just after 9 a.m. on Monday. “Multiple units, including a police helicopter, searched the coastline for more packets, but nothing has been found thus far,” police said in a statement later that day.
It is a substantially smaller discovery than one made last December, when police came upon 1,200 kilos of cocaine stuffed inside a homemade buoy. The drugs were seized by police in the Westerschelde in Zeeland. A 22-year-old from Montenegro was arrested in connection with the bust after evidence technicians found fingerprints on the buoy.
