Life sentence demanded for triple murder during robbery
The Public Prosecutor in Assen has demanded life sentences against brothers Admilson R. and Marcos R. for three murders committed during robberies.
According to the Public Prosecutor, the two brothers violently and with military precision killed Berend Smit from Dwingelpoo and the Veenendaal couple from Exloo. "The brothers acted deliberately and in cold-blood. They have caused irreparable sorrow with financial gain as motive", the prosecutor said, newspaper AD reports.
On July 24th, 2013, the Veenendaal couple, age 77 years, were murdered in their home on De Bosrand in Exloo. They died of asphyxiation. The police initially thought it was suicide, but further investigation showed that the brothers were involved. In one tapped conversation the brothers said to each other that it was a pity they could not make it look like suicide.
Berend Smit disappeared in November 2014 while he was out walking his dogs. His body was found three days later along Spieregerweg between Dwingeloo and Spier. Admilson R. admitted to shooting Smit during his trial. "I wanted to make money fast. We wanted to catch criminals, but we knew no criminals." he said, according to the newspaper.
The court in Assen will rule on this case in two weeks. Then the court will also decide whether they brothers will have to pay compensation to the victims' relatives.
