Eritrean wanted in German murder found in Dutch asylum center
A Eritrean man has been found and arrested in a Dutch asylum center in connection with the murder of his 23-year-old Eritrean girlfriend in Germany on August 12 last year, the Public Prosector announced. The man was arrested in Deventer last Thursday.
The 25-year-old suspect, Hagos Belay G. has been on the run for months after a European arrest warrant was issued against him. He managed to evade police until October 8th, when he was found at an asylum seeker center in Schalkhaar. This was confirmed by Aukamn chief prosecutor Andreas Winkelmann to broadcaster De Stentor.
The arrest was made possible thanks to German fingerprinting information. The suspect has been remanded into custody pending his return to Germany for trial.
